Kate Wood, Word Networks, 2020, paper, cardboard, pushpins, twine

Word Networks was created by reading my interview with Katy Mutton, and looking for a relatability in phrasing and tone that conveyed the sense of our shared experiences as Canberrans.

The two poems were built rather than written, taking those little blocks of words that felt like a shared identity and finding the struts that held them together - creating two snippets of my experience from three longer pieces of somebody else's.

But those pieces I took could not be removed completely from their original context, or claimed as words of my own - in this piece they stand out as shared, part of both lives.
